Plant details
Oriental poppies are among the most flamboyant of the early summer flowers, with enormous, often frilly double flowers around 15cm (6in) across. 'Perry's White' is an eye-catching, pure white poppy with a dark red-purple centre. The petals of the plant often have purple blotches, although these gradually fade to white as the plant ages. Although poppies don't flower for long, they're easy to grow and if cut back after flowering, may even produce a second flush later in the summer. Plant it in a sunny border, as part of a cottage-garden scheme, alongside grasses or late summer-flowering perennials, such as dahlias, which will provide interest when the plant has died back.
