This is a delightful, little poppy from the Caucasus and Asia Minor. It produces a beautiful rosette of finely-cut, silvery-blue foliage in the first year, and is well worth growing for this alone. In the second year, from spring to summer, it sends up stems with masses of glowing, orange to brick-red flowers, 2.5cm (1in) across. It's ideal for the rockery, front of the border, or in a pot in the alpine house or cold greenhouse.
