Pelargoniums, or geraniums as they are often called, are superb for summer displays. With their origins from the Cape region of South Africa, these plants are used to dry conditions and will be forgiving if left to dry out occasionally during summer. 'Voodoo' produces unusual flowers of light wine-red flowers embossed with purply-black markings. In very mild areas of the UK pelargoniums will withstand winter outdoors, especially if planted in well-drained soil because damp rather than cold is its biggest killer.
