Plant details
Grown for its foliage rather than its flowers, 'Red Dragon' is an unusual herbaceous plant for the border or large containers. The sharply-pointed leaves are dark maroon in colour with a darker centre surrounded by a pale white band. It forms a handsome, upright clump and is happy on most soils in full sun or light shade. To achieve the best effects plant it with contrasting foliage plants such as silver-leaved plectranthus or golden leaved grasses. It also looks good in jungle planting schemes, where it associates well with cannas, bamboos and bananas.

Colour is better if planted in partial shade. Flowers are tiny but enhance the overall appearance. Will create a nice clump which will lean out from the crown.
