Plant details
Modern varieties of annual phlox are far superior to traditional kinds, which tended to be tall, sparse and leggy. The plants are stronger and bushier, the flowers large and longer-lasting. 'Phlox of Sheep' is a popular mixture of pastels shades, with a long-flowering season, although very hot weather can interrupt flowering. If this happens, trim the plants back and feed to stimulate a further crop. The flowers are also good for cutting, and spare plants can be grown elsewhere for this purpose. Guard against over-watering. The Royal Horticultural Society have given it their prestigious Award of Garden Merit.
