Plant details
A classic summer-flowering rock garden plant, this forms low, dense mauve-pink flowering carpets that will cover the ground or trail over the edge of a dwarf wall or raised bed, rather like an upmarket aubretia. Unlike many rock plants, it is both evergreen and tolerates light dappled shade, so it can be used as ground cover around dwarf conifers or under miniature shrubs such as Salix lanata. It is also good grown above clumps of dwarf bulbs, since the foliage of the phlox helps to hide the bulb leaves while they die down.
