This clump-forming bamboo has distinctive zig-zagging canes that change colour in different conditions. The green stems turn red in full sun, and dark yellow with maturity. A relative rarity in the domestic garden, its height makes it an ideal screening plant. Whilst not one of the most invasive bamboos, it will spread. Keep it in check by growing in a container.
