Plant details
This is a very elegant, broadly conical, conifer with long, blue-green, pendent needles. The colour is most intense in late spring when the new growth at the tips of the shoots is a shade lighter. The bark is smooth and grey-green on young trees, becoming dark and cracked. When young, the branches reach down to the base of the trunk, but as it gets older the crown of the tree shades the lower branches which die back and should be removed. It needs a large garden to accommodate it, but given enough space, it makes an imposing specimen. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it the Award of Garden Merit.
