Plant details

Alderman' is widely grown as few other varieties of pea crop so well. The long, thick pods contain up to 11 large peas which have an excellent flavour. Sow outdoors from March to June for cropping between June and mid-October. Peas need well-drained but moist soil. Before sowing, dig in lots of organic matter, such as compost. Most varieties need to be given some support, such as netting or pea sticks. For the juiciest peas, water the plants once a week as soon as the plants begin to flower and form pods.
