Abutilons have lantern-shaped flowers, often in shades of red, orange or yellow. They can be grown outdoors in a warm, sheltered location sheltered from cold winds and frost, or in a conservatory, where they may continue to flower throughout winter.

Abutilon ‘Bella Red’ is a compact abutilon, suitable for growing outdoors as well as using as a houseplant. It's the perfect size for a hanging basket. Large, red flowers with a yellow centre are borne over a long period.

Grow Abutilon 'Bella Red' in moist but well-drained soil in a conservatory or sunny, sheltered spot - against a sheltered south- or west-facing wall is ideal. If growing outside, propagate new plants from summer cuttings, as insurance against winter damage, especially since the shrubs can be short-lived. Trim back after flowering.
