Agapanthus praecox is a clump-forming South African perennial, with strap-like leaves and showy blue flowers from mid- to late summer. It's ideal for growing in containers, from which its pretty blooms stand tall, spilling over other pots.

Agapanthus praecox works well when planted en masse in the border or in a large container on the patio. For best results grow in a sheltered, sunny spot, in moist but well-drained soil. In exposed areas protect from frost in winter, or move potted plants indoors in autumn.
