Native to the dry slopes and pine forests of California, tree anemone Carpenteria californica is a popular garden plant, grown for its large and bold, fragrant white flowers and glossy, leather leaves. It's a bushy evergreen shrub, which, once mature, is hardy throughout most of the UK.

Carpenteria californica ‘Bodnant’ has cup-shaped anemone flowers with a central boss of yellow stamens. Its leaves are dark green and glossy and is park is pale and peeling. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

Grow Carpenteria californica ‘Bodnant’ in fertile moist but well-drained soil in full sun, ideally with the additional shelter of a sunny wall to protect it from frost and cold winds.
