Named after the 19th century Polish–Lithuanian noblewoman and revolutionary, Clematis 'Emilia Plater' is a robust viticella-type clematis, bearing light mauve-blue flowers with a darker central bar on each tepal. It has good resistance to clematis wilt.

A vigorous climber, it is ideally suited to growing up a sturdy obelisk in a large herbaceous border, or being allowed to scramble through a shrub or tree. It can also be grown to quickly cover a wall or face. It makes a great companion for yellow-flowered plants.

Being a summer-flowering clematis, Clematis 'Emilia Plater' is in Pruning Group 3. The flowers are formed on the terminal 60cm of the current year's growth, so need to be cut down in late-winter/early spring to ensure flowering remains at eye level. Simply cut stems back to the lowest pair of buds in February or March.
