Raised in France in 1883, Clematis 'Kermesina' bears rich red flowers from midsummer to early autumn. Some of the flowers early in the season may have green tips. It's a great choice for growing up an obelisk in a sunny border, or training up a trellis or through shrubs and trees. A viticella clematis, it shows good resistance to clematis wilt.

For best results grow Clematis 'Kermesina' in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. As with all the late-flowering clematis, pruning is easy: simply cut stems back to the lowest pair of buds in February or March. Mulch annually with well-rotted manure or compost.
