Also known as 'Venosa Violacea', Clematis 'Violet Stargazer' is a distinctive, medium-sized vitcella-type clematis, bearing single open, deeply veined purple flowers up to 10cm in diameter. It has the largest flowers of all viticella clematis, and will happily scrabble through a shrub or tree, as well as grow in more traditional situations, such as up an obelisk. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigous Award of Garden Merit.

Being a summer-flowering clematis, Clematis 'Violet Stargazer' is in Pruning Group 3. Simply cut stems back to the lowest pair of buds in February or March.
