Deschampsia cespitosa is a spectacular fountain-shaped grass, bearing densly tufted evergreen foliage, from which tall sprays of silver-tinted purple flower-heads appear in summer. It's a fantastic choice for growing between shrubs and perennials in ornamental borders, and is a good option for a wildflower meadow. The seedheads persist well into winter and become bronze-brown with age – they work well in dried winter flower arrangements.

For best results, grow Deschampsia cespitosa in partial shade. Remove faded seedheads in late winter before new growth appears.
