Euphorbia x martinii is a lovely spurge, bearing dark grey-green rosettes of leaves and upright bracts in lime-green with a red eye.

It's a great choice if you have poor, dry soil in shade, as this euphorbia thrives in difficult conditions. The evergreen leaves form a low, weed-smothering carpet over the ground. The flowers persist until summer, gradually fading to pale-green.

Always wear gloves when working with euphorbias. The milky sap is a skin irritant.
