There are more than 55 species of Heuchera that originate from woodland areas of the US. Many cultivars have brightly coloured foliage and produce clump-forming plants that are great for groundcover. Heucheras work very well at the front of a black and white garden, or as edging around a mixed border contrasting with brighter, bold-coloured perennials.

Heuchera 'Midnight Rose' produces purple foliage. Cut back the flower heads once they fade to keep plants looking tidy.
