Lacecaps and mopheads are the most commonly grown hydrangeas in our gardens. Mopheads have full, round heads of large petals, and lacecaps have flattish flower heads of large outer petals and tiny flowers in the centre.

Also known as Hydrangea macrophylla 'Mariesii Perfecta', Hydrangea 'Blue Wave' is a pretty lacecap hydrangea with toothed, glossy dark green leaves and flattened flower heads ringed by a wave of blue florets. Flowers are blue if grown in acidic soil, or pink if grown in more alkaline soils.

‘Blue Wave' is perfect for growing at the back of a mixed herbaceous border. It makes an excellent cut flower.
