Petunias are the ultimate summer bedding plants. They thrive in hot, dry weather and keep on flowering for months on end. They're best grown in containers in sunny, sheltered situations such as a patio or terrace, and make ideal plants for hanging basket displays.

Part of the Velvet series, Petunia 'Rose Vein Velvet' is said to be one of the best varieties to grow from seed. It bears masses of trailing stems up to 1m in length, so is ideal for growing in hanging baskets and pots on the patio.

Petunia 'Rose Vein Velvet' can also be used as ground cover at the front of ornamental borders. For best results water regularly and feed weekly with a high-potash fertiliser. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering.
