Teucrium x lucidrys

Hedge germander, Teucrium x lucidrys, is a hardy evergreen shrub which is well suited to growing as a low, neat hedge. It was traditionally used in knot gardens and is a great option for growing in place of diseased box hedging. It has the additional benefit of producing pretty pink flowers from summer to early autumn, which are extremely attractive to pollinators.

Hedge germander leaves are small and dark green, with a red margin. A spicy aroma is released when crushed.

If growing as a hedge, space plants 20cm apart and keep them well watered during the first year. To maintain a good hedge shape, simply prune Teucrium x lucidrys back by about 5cm each autumn.
