Viburnums range from deciduous to semi-evergreens and evergreens. They thrive in well drained soils in open situations. They are grown for their flowers, autumn colour and clusters of bright berries, varying in colour from blue, red or black.

Viburnum sargentii is a large, deciduous viburnum, bearing maple-like leaves which emerge deep bronze-purple in spring, maturing to green in summer, and then turning purple again in autumn. Lacecap flowerheads comrpising pretty reddish buds and white florets appear in May.

For best results, grow Viburnum sargentii in full sun to full shade, in moist but well-drained soil. Prune in late winter if necessary.
