Plant details

This vigorous, large tree from South-East Europe is widely planted in Western Asia. Its size makes it an impressive specimen or street tree. It thrives in urban conditions but should not be planted too near to buildings are the roots may damage drains. The attractive five-lobed leaves resemble those of a maple, and turn golden-brown in autumn. The flaking grey, brown and cream bark is also very beautiful. Green, later brown fruits hang on the tree in autumn and winter. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
