Plant details
Ideal for small gardens, this decorative green and cream variegated bamboo from Japan looks good all year round. Grow it in an evergreen border, beside a pond or team with ornamental grasses or a taller upright bamboo to make a feature. It is also superb in a pot on the patio. The stripes are not 100 per cent reliable and some leaves may be almost or entirely plain green. These are best removed when tidying the plant in early spring. The plant needs placing carefully as if grown in hot sunshine or exposed to late frost or drying wind, the white areas may scorch. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it their prestigious Award of Garden Merit.
