The soft fronds of this evergreen fern form a 'shuttlecock' that enlivens woodland plantings. It looks particularly attractive planted in groups and makes the ideal companion to other shade-lovers like hellebores and hostas. Ferns benefit from humus-rich, well-drained soil. Get plants off to a good start by incorporating organic matter into the planting hole. Remove spent fronds regularly, and divide plants in spring.
