Trees & shrubsBamboo & red hook sedge

Modern pot of bamboo and red hook sedge

You will need:

  • Bamboo, Fargesia rufa x3
  • Red hook sedge, Uncinia rubra
  • Tall black planter or other modern pot
  • Multi-purpose, peat-free compost

Overview

Some pots cry out for a simple planting scheme that doesn't detract from their own beauty, for which this arrangement is perfect. The bamboo combines beautifully with the dark brown-bronze leaves of the red hook sedge to form a sleek display that would look great in any garden all year round.

How to do it

  1. Plant the bamboo as the centrepiece of this display and arrange the sedge around its base to form a gentle, soft carpet. Make sure you position the pot in a sheltered spot to avoid cold winds damaging the plants.

Adam's Tip's

Adam's Tip

"Both plants enjoy moist conditions, so water the container regularly."

"Scatter large black pebbles on top of the compost - they not only look smart, but they also help to keep the plants' roots cool and moist."
