This bright, contemporary container filled with sunny gazanias and rudbeckia is just the thing to jazz up your garden for the summer. It looks effective on its own or placed in a group with others, if you're having a party - and best of all it's quick and easy to make.
Plant it:
May
At its best:
May - September
Takes just:
30 minutes
-
Fill a metal trough with crocks to help drainage, then top with a layer of multi-purpose compost.
-
Carefully remove the gazanias from their pots, teasing out the roots to help them get established. Plant them in a row along the front of the container. Do the same with the rudbeckias, placing them behind the gazanias.
-
Fill in around the rootball with compost, pushing it down firmly until it's level with the top of the rootball. Water thoroughly. If frosts are forecast shortly after planting, cover with horticultural fleece.
"Mix water-retaining gel and slow-release feed granules into the compost before planting."
