These sun-loving plants make a dazzling combination. The silverbush looks good even after its white, bell-shaped flowers have faded; meanwhile, the wallflower keeps churning out gorgeous spikes of mauve flowers for months on end. And no summer garden is complete without the delicious aroma of lavender.
Plant it:
May
At its best:
June - August
Takes just:
40 minutes
-
Cover the bottom of the planter with crocks, then fill it two-thirds with compost.
-
The silverbush is the centrepiece of this planter, so plant this first with the erysimum at the back for height. Surround with the lavender and soften the edges with the trailing bacopa.
-
Top up the planter with compost, firming it around the plant roots with your fingers. Bring it under cover if frost is forecast.
"At the end of autumn, it's best to move this container under cover as some of the plants will hate the winter cold."
"The erysimum needs lightly trimming after flowering to prevent it getting leggy. Make new plants by taking softwood cuttings in spring or summer."
