SummerOranges and lemons

Pot of osteospermum, helichrysum and lantana

You will need:

  • 1 Helichrysum petiolare 'Limelight'
  • 1 Lantana camara
  • 2 Osteospermum 'Orange Symphony' or O.'Lemon Symphony'
  • Large pot
  • Compost

Overview

This container will add a really summery punch to a sunny corner of your garden. Best known in pink or purple varieties, osteospermum is also available in zingy citrus shades, such as 'Orange Symphony' and 'Lemon Symphony'. In this display, these summery, golden flowers burst through a soft, shimmering helichrysum and the multi-tonal shrub, Lantana camara.

How to do it

  1. Put crocks in the base of the container and half fill it with compost. Arrange the osteospermums in the centre of the pot and surround them with the foliage plants. We used Helichrysum petiolare 'Limelight' for its soft, furry leaves, plus it will cover the pot and its sides very quickly, as well as Lantana camara, which is a tender shrub with fascinating flowers that change colour as they age.

Adam's Tip's

Adam's Tip

"Helichrysum petiolare 'Limelight' is a vigorous grower, so prune it whenever necessary to prevent it swamping the other plants."

"Be careful when handling the lantana if you have sensitive skin, as the aromatic foliage can cause irritation."

"If frost is forecast after planting up, protect these plants by bringing the pot under cover."
