SpringPretty primulas

Primulas in a bowl

You will need:

  • 3 drumstick primulas, Primula denticulata
  • 3 hybrid primroses
  • A wide, shallow bowl
  • Multi-purpose compost
  • Crocks

Overview

Thanks to their cheery flowers, which come in a wide range of colours, primulas are one of our most popular spring bedding plants. Once this display is over, plant everything out into a damp spot in the garden.

How to do it

  1. Put a layer of crocks in the bottom of the bowl, then half-fill it with compost.

  2. Knock the plants out of their pots and arrange them in the bowl. We planted tall drumstick primulas in white and lilac in the centre with lower-growing primroses around the outside.

  3. Once you're happy with the arrangement, top up the bowl with compost, firming it around the plants with your fingers.

Adam's Tip's

Adam's Tip

"Buy primulas in individual pots, as these tend to have stronger rootballs than those grown in trays. "

"To keep the display going, remove the flowers after they fade and any leaves that turn yellow."
