Heuchera and viola pot display

Perfect for a shady corner, this pretty display is simple to recreate. Here, we've combined bronze-green heuchera with common blue violets. The trailing ivies hang from the side of the container to complete the look.

Plant it: March - April
At its best: May - September
Takes just: 30 minutes to plant up the container

How to do it:

Adding crocks

Put a layer of crocks in the bottom of the container, to stop compost falling out of the drainage holes.

Adding compost

Fill the container two-thirds full with compost.

Adding slow-release fertiliser

Add slow-release fertiliser granules to the durface of the compost, and mix them in with your hands.

Planting up the pot

Plant the heucheras first, then the violas. Add more compost around the plants and firm in well. Water plants thoroughly and allow to drain before moving the container to its final position.

Our tip

Remove faded flowers and leaves to prolong the display

I love Azaleas and this combination is great but watch out for the campanulas they seed all over the place even in my clay soil, do look lovely though and you've got them forever so thats a bonus.
