Scabious and heucherella window box

Overview

The dark-green window box and richly coloured plants make a sensational combination. The red scabious takes centre stage, rising above a platform of dark heucherella foliage.
Plant It March - July
At Its Best May - September
Takes Just 20 minutes

How To Do It

1Cover the bottom of the window box with crocks, then fill it two-thirds with compost.

2Plant the scabious in the centre, sandwiched between the heucherellas. Top up the box with more compost, gently firming it around the plant roots with your fingers.

Adam's tip

Scabious is a short-lived perennial, but luckily it's easily propagated by taking cuttings in early spring.
If you can't find this deep red scabious, try the more widely available chocolate cosmos, Cosmos atrosanguineus.
