Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula' makes a change from the traditional large-leaved pear. This form makes an ideal ornamental tree for the small garden. The leaves are small and thin with distinctive silvery hairs, giving the whole plant a silver sheen. The stiff branches bend towards the ground, forming an attractive pendulous shape.
In spring Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula' also bears attractive clusters of white flowers, which are followed in autumn by small, inedible pears. It looks particularly good when planted with dark-leaved shrubs and pastel-coloured flowers.
