Suitable for larger gardens, this attractive rhododendron species is found growing wild from China to Thailand, Northern India, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. In early spring, it produces dense heads of tubular red, pink or white flowers with black spotting inside. The dark green leaves are silvery fawn or cinnamon-brown underneath. A good choice for a woodland garden, it enjoys a partially shaded spot in moist but well-drained, acidic soil.
