Plant details

Scharlachglut', German for 'Scarlet Fire', is a modern shrub rose introduced in 1952, with quite remarkable vigour and needing plenty of room to display itself to advantage. It is a handsome bush, with strong, purple-brown stems which may be trained against a pillar or wall, or allowed to arch freely outwards. The velvety flowers are distinctive and eye-catching, single and very large, in a rich glowing scarlet with crimson overtones and with pronounced golden stamens in the centre. In autumn large hips form in generous clusters, bowing under their own weight. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
