Plant details

Deciduous shrub Spiraea japonica 'Goldflame' adds a touch of colour to the border. New growth is bronze-red, turning bright yellow, then eventually mid-green. Dark pink flowers are produced in mid- to late summer. Easy to grow, it enjoys a sunny spot in moist, well-drained soil. For the brightest coloured foliage, prune back hard before growth begins in spring. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious award of Garden Merit.
