Plant details

Deciduous shrub Spiraea japonica 'Magic Carpet' adds a shot of colour to the garden for months on end, thanks to its bright yellow foliage. This is further enhanced from May to June when bright red young growth appears. This fades with time, but the colourful display continues, with the pink flowers which cover the plant from mid- to late summer. Easy to grow, it thrives in well-drained, moist soil in a sunny spot. For the brightest colured foliage, cut the plant back hard as the buds begin to swell in spring. The Royal Horticultural Society have given it their prestigious Award of Garden Merit.
