Plant details
A small deciduous tree or large, shapely shrub which is grown for its lovely light, open, wispy foliage and dense covering of pink flowers. They appear from late summer to the first half of autumn on the new growth. It is commonly grown in coastal gardens where it makes an effective windbreak, and because it tolerates blasts of high winds. By cutting it back quite hard at the start of spring, plenty of new growth is forced up, and this also prevents it from getting top heavy and being blown over in a gale.
