Plant details
This fine decorative thyme is a hybrid produced by crossing garden thyme with the dwarf broad-leaved thyme, T. pulegioides. It forms neat spreading mounds of greenish-gold leaves, particularly attractive as an edging and also valuable for planting in paths. Planted en masse about 20cm (4in) apart, it can be used to make an alternative fragrant lawn that will withstand light use - trim twice annually, once in spring and again after flowering. Although a variety of lemon thyme, this does not have the strong citrus fragrance of its parent, but it is useful as a source of mild thyme flavour.
