Tulipa 'Angelique'

Plant details

Double late tulips are sometimes called paeony-flowered tulips. Their blooms are fully double and crammed with petals so that the overall outline is one of a wide cup rather than a typically tight tulip shape. Tulipa 'Angelique' is an outstanding variety. Its blooms are a soft blush pink that deepens with age, with a rich apple blossom ink developing at the edges, and green markings on the outside. It makes a spectacular cut flower. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

Like all double tulips, Tulipa 'Angelique' needs some shelter to prevent wind and rain dashing the heavy blooms. Planting close together with hidden support in the centre of the group is a great help. Grow in moist but well-drained soil in full sun.

Kriedstein

I planted these in my garden in Shetland last October and have been amazed at how tough and robust they have been, defying the winds and rough winter weather from when their green shoots first appeared in January. Their beautiful blooms in late April and into May have been nothing short of spectacular! Definitely a tulip for keeps.
