The double early varieties are opulent tulips, often with flamboyant colouring. They are a popular choice for spring bedding, although in exposed gardens they may bend their heavy heads after rain and strong winds. They flower about two weeks later than single early varieties, with slightly shorter stems they may be forced for earlier flowers and are commonly used for cutting because they last well in water. 'Peach Blossom' is one of the best known varieties, its rich silvery pink blooms in demand both for bedding and cutting.
