Plant details

Triumph or mid-season tulips are hybrids between Darwin and single early varieties, and combine the simple beauty of the singles with the strong stems of the Darwin kinds, although they are not so tall. They are therefore ideal for bedding in exposed positions, where they are very wind-resistant, and as they flower mid-season, they can be cleared in time to be replaced by summer bedding. There are many lovely varieties, with new ones appearing all the time. 'Shirley', often incorrectly listed as a single late, is an outstanding Triumph variety with its soft colouring.
