Native to the Arctic and alpine regions of Northern Europe and North America, the lingonberry is related to blueberries and cranberries, and enjoys the same acidic soil conditions. It's well-suited to growing in pots of ericaceous compost, and its low-growing and spreading habit makes it the perfect companion to be planted under blueberries.
Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Red Pearl' has a compact habit, making it better suited to growing in pots than other varieties. Highly ornamental, its dark evergreen leaves are contrasted with pretty pink flowers in spring and summer, followed by tart, juicy red fruits suitable for using in jams, pies sauces and drinks.
