Plant details
In the depths of winter flowering may flag, except in sunny sheltered spots, but otherwise plants bloom sporadically through the winter, with a full display in spring. Much depends on when the seeds are sown: July sowings start flowering in September and October, with a break in winter, while late August plants flower continuously from November. When cleared to make way for summer bedding, plants may be divided carefully and transplanted for growing on, or they can be pruned to make new young growth for cuttings. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
