Plant details

The Leyland cypress evokes either love or hate due to its ability to grow at over 90cm (3ft) a year. It makes a very good, evergreen hedging plant providing it is trimmed at twice a year. When negelected it will quickly turn into a monster. The foliage is a rich, green colour and it can look quite smart if neatly trimmed. This huge conifer can be also grown as a very tall specimen tree. To propagate take semi-ripe cuttings in late summer. It enjoys a position in well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. The Royal Horticultural Society have given it their prestigious Award of Garden Merit.
