Plant details
There are several species of zephyranthes. Most other varieties are too tender to grow outdoors, although they are excellent house and conservatory plants. This South American species is the hardiest, provided it is given a warm, sheltered position on light, moist soil, during the growing season - it is a native of marshes and moist riverbanks. The pure pink flowers with white throats are very attractive, especially en masse, and resemble wide open crocuses. It looks particularly effective when grown as an edging to a sunny path or border.
