Scarifier / aerators / rake
, or a combi scarifier / rake, or whether to hire one.  I bought one of those manual hollow tine aerator intending to brush sharp sand into the holes but the tines got jammed with sticky clay -  it was such a fag I gave up.   I have seen petrol  pluggers by Gold1locks

3 in 1 Lawn Mower, Aerator & Scarifier
Made by Eckman.  Does anyone have any experience of this product please?? There are lots of adverts for it, apparently the appropriate cassette slots into place.  Looking at the pictures the aerator is a series of blades. "Lawn Man" has a battery by Highland Jeannie

spring lawn feed via a spreader
Can anyone advise what is a good spring feed for lawns using a spreader?  Our lawn has moss and weed through it so will give it a rake and aerate it first but have no idea what feed is good to use at this time of year. Immediately-do nothing by Gill Lindfield

Moss
died off you can rake it out then overseed any bare patches. Moss tends to indicate poor drainage, so the very least to do after treating it would be to aerate the soil with a fork before preparing to re seed. Or you may well be back to square one again by jenniferrussell

By hand or machine?
help! My lawn is covered in moss, from a distance it looks green and normal but as you get nearer you can see its just covered with dense moss. When you walk on it it's like walking on sponge. Now I know I need to aerate it and scarify by yvonne parsons2

Moss
- scarifying with a spring tine rake first of all will remove any thatch,  then aerating using  a hollow tined aerator will remove plugs of soil, allowing you to rub in a top dressing of  a mix of loam, grit, and compost (3 parts to 6 to 1, respectively by Typewriter

Mossy lawn
it out. Its fantastic stuff. Thanks to all who answered my query. Shade is not a problem, but the need to aerate struck a chord. I have opted for aerating with a fork and a bit of fairly gentle scarifying as a starting measure, and we will see how it goes by Les2

Planting bulbs in the shed.
already, theyve only taken 6 days. I can't see why not - but the air will heat up fast. We'll have to remember to aerate. by gavtheblade

Air pots
't exactly cheap I wondered about their longevity. Morning steephillI thought about airpots for tomatoes tooInstead I'm going to use 5 litre pots with 50/50 perlite for the required aerationAs an alternative....and I may do this......you could drill holes by steephill
