Soil on Grass
.After scarifying and aerating we would put a load of lawn soil on the green and rake it in leveling with a long plank. The soil contained seed and fertiliser it was then left to over winter and we would then cut it dropping the blade to find a perfect sward by bobloes

Worm cast & Mushrooms on Lawn
of worms working away underground taking nutrients down into the soil and aerating the soil, helping to keep the roots healthy and at this time of year, when we have heavy rain the worms are working even harder. Sweeping them with a besom is the traditional by Sizeyuk1

Help!!! My Grass won't grow!
in motion, then when it is a little warmer, feed, seed and rake the garden. Takes time, but it's worth it! Worm casts on the surface (if that's what they are) are a good sign. The little tunnels that the worms dig help to aerate the lawn, and improve by Mark O'Neill

Unstable young birch tree
- always better than a round hole as the roots will grow out rather than around the periphery of the hole. Certainly don't plant it deeper! Consider using a perforated pipe to deliver water and air. Tree roots need aeration as well as water. Good Luck! by Hedge Hog

Plug plants ,How much perlite to add to multi purpose compost ?
and reduce damping off. Perlite mixed in compost retains moisture by improving aeration and drainage. Roots need air to take up nutrients from the compost and perlite assists with this.   I use perlite mixed with compost for plants in pots instead by Jerry2

Preparing to lay a lawn
the bigger stones out (anything 2-3" or bigger), this sounds like effort but trust me, if you do this, when it comes to aerating the lawn, (stabbing with a fork) no stones = an easy life. Good luck. PS: you will need to give some attention every year by My first garden

what can I put in compost
for the rest of it. I've got 3 bins, one being filled, one rotting down and the third ready to go. Mixing the contents does help, if you google 'compost aerators' you'll find a bunch of nifty tools for use in a dalek type bin. Keeping the contents moist helps by Bev Pounsett-Krynauw

Overgrown back garden
, if you want to add borders then plan them now. Lawn - I would rake over the whole lawn taking all the thatch out. I would then go over it with a garden fork and aerate the whole lawn then get some sand mixed with compost and throw that in the hole created by Martin JA
