Talkback: Rabbits and myxomatosis
yearnings)Once the house has been renovated I would love to make a small allotment area again and grow my own veg. But will I ever be able to with these PESTS. Someone told me to get a couple of cats and rabbits will be deterred from coming into the garden by happymarion

potager! I gre pumpkins last year for the first time down the allotment they did so well i am growing 4 times as many this year! I had ten plants last year and 15 pumpkins so 40 plants this year should give me at least 60 pumpkins. :) Some people think i by Pink Heather

bin. l was going to empty it today but the rain has not stoped so l am hoping that l can do it on saturday julie Last year I found a rat on our compost heap at the allotment. I don't know who was the most suprised! The rat ran off back to the nearby by oldchippy

Not all bad news in the garden
pickings, but then faded away in the grey weather.Brassicas,potatoes (in fact, all root crops) are doing well, so whilst I moan about the lack of sun, I can't complain of the end results so far. Having my allotment on the side of a hill does help drainage by Palaisglide

Belfast sink.
have a proper herb bed in the allotment.  In the past I've used it for trailing pinks and a pretty dwarf phlox. I'm ashamed to say that I have never grown herbs - I just buy the little pots from the supermarket but think that's a superb idea ! I use a by jean riley

Leaving the garden to itself for a year - what to plant?
and can't get an allotment.  With the house sitter in situ access wouldn't be a problem and you could either charge a little rent or just let them have the use of the garden for the year as a goodwill gesture.  The house sitter and garden tenant could keep by Viola111

Clay soil problem
. This year I have an allotment too, so am going to use comfrey there to see if theres any  difference between that or the nettle steeped liquid (with both, just use 1 part liquid to 10 parts  of water). I hope you enjoy your new garden for years to come! by L0la

by your mistakes. Hope this helps. Frank. on my allotment, I started to create a couple of large new beds - digging up a large area of grass that was on my plot.  I only got 1/2 way through I have covered the undug bit with plastic to stay on top by SarahTho

tomatoes-growbags or not growbags?
on the fruit. I've grown tomatoes in growbags, double growbags (ie, one on top of the other, cut through to give double the root depth,) and also out in the allotment. My best ever crop was 'Gardeners Delight' in single growbags BUT it was an exceptionally warm by artychris

Is there anything that can go in now for an autumn crop ?
nurseries or GCs still have some veg that can go in. Depends how much space you have really. I've just been given an allotment and my first crops going in will be plants to improve and break up the soil, like buckwheat or rye grass. You can however grow by blueberry77
