Talkback: Snowdrop days
'm in heaven. :) A. Arnott is our favourite here too!!! We got some from a friend, who has since died, but the snowdrops live on, and we think of our friend every year when they come out. I was given one bulb of G. magnum by a friend at our Alpine garden by Lainey

Saxifrage brown in middle?
Hi, this is my first post, I'm a gardening novice - very keen but lacking in knowledge! Thought these forums would be a big help... A couple of years ago I planted a mossy saxifrage (Peter Pan), it's now spread to a clump about 12 by 6 inches by Rachael H

Hypericum Magical Red Star Pruning?
this one.  They were a weed in our garden when we arrived here some 17 years ago, and we still have the occasional outbreak!  I'd certainly cut them back hard now if I were you.  I do have a very small one in an alpine bed, grows to about 12 inches by diggingdoris

Talkback: How to make a rock garden in a trough
use 5mm limestone grit. Wondered if this article I wrote was of any use.            We found a number of these old Belfast type sinks around the garden. This is how I turned them into alpine growing areas. The sink was scrubbed with bleach to remove by bobthepot

Suitable plants for shallow trough
cushion, about 6 inches high and are also available in white. Also small dianthus (like miniature carnations) in various colours. Should be available now at your local garden centre or, preferably, nursery and also ask for alpines.   It sounds an ideal by jwsiharris

Garden of rented property - design advice
is not fully established yet so the garden is quite open and unsheltered. In the Autumn I dug up an area of the lawn which was tucked into a recess of the house and put in two square metre raised beds as well as a flower bed and a small rock garden for alpines by nicky99

s it possible to to exchange seeds between Dutch, English and Scottish gardener
I meant to say. As far as I am aware it is legal to send seeds from anywhere in the EU to anywhere in the Eu, as long as they are not wild collected and restricted by CITES. Check out the Alpine Garden Soc and the Scottish Rock garden sites by Dutch-Ellen

Talkback: Self-seeding plants
!@happymarion I didn't mean in a regular garden! If I ever get a nice piece of land, I could just leave it and sit and watch it grow. Glad you found lots of alpine strawberries. Are you going to make use of them?@Chromebaby lovely to find new plants, isn't it? I by oldchippy

Horticultural grit
decorative and cost a fortune. I need good normal horti-grit to lighten my soil and add drainage. I want it available now.  Why is it so difficult....nowhere has it in stock, not DIY stores, builders merchants or garden centres. Its frustrating me...so many by salmacg
